Echo Sage: The New Ruler
The Echo Sage is the brand new ruler coming to Merge Tactics! This unique ruler introduces a completely different playstyle centered around a special unit called the Echo that can one-shot enemies after charging up its ability.
Echo Sage Ability: Striking Clone
The Echo Sage's ability is called Striking Clone:
- Summons the Echo: A special unit that appears on the battlefield
- Charges up over time: The Echo stands still while charging its ability
- One-shots the nearest enemy: Once fully charged, it instantly eliminates the closest enemy
- Cannot be benched: The Echo must stay on the field
Echo Evolution System
The Echo levels up based on enemies defeated:
| Star Level | Enemies Needed | Cooldown | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| ★ | Starting | 9 seconds | One-shots nearest enemy |
| ★★ | 1 enemy | 8 seconds | One-shots nearest enemy |
| ★★★ | 2 enemies | 6 seconds | One-shots nearest enemy |
| ★★★★ | 4 enemies | 3 seconds | One-shots enemies in a wide area |
Key insight: The first knockout is the hardest to achieve due to the long 9-second charge time. After that, it gets progressively easier and faster.
Strengths & Weaknesses
Strengths
- ✅ Extra unit slot: The Echo doesn't count towards your team size, giving you 3 units in Round 1
- ✅ One-shot potential: Can instantly eliminate any enemy regardless of health
- ✅ Devastating late game: At 4★ with 3-second cooldown and AoE, it's nearly unstoppable
- ✅ Tank killer: Destroys high-HP units that other comps struggle against
Weaknesses
- ❌ No elixir generation: Unlike other rulers, Echo Sage doesn't provide any extra elixir
- ❌ Slow start: 9 seconds to charge initially is a long time
- ❌ Echo can die: If your Echo dies before charging, you lose significant value
- ❌ Relies entirely on one unit: All ruler power is tied to the Echo's performance
Optimal Strategy
Early Game (R1–R3)
The key challenge is getting that first knockout:
- Intentionally slow down Round 1: Use weaker units or tank-heavy comps to extend round duration
- Place tanks in front: Give the Echo time to charge while your frontline absorbs damage
- Position Echo safely: Keep it protected in the back so it survives long enough to activate
Pro tip: You might want to intentionally have a "bad" first round composition so the fight lasts long enough for the Echo to charge up and get its first kill.
Mid Game (R4–R7)
Once the Echo reaches 2★ or 3★, things get easier:
- 6-second cooldown at 3★ is game-changing
- Focus on protecting the Echo with tanky frontline
- Use Brawlers
to keep enemies engaged in the front
Late Game (4★ Echo)
At 4★, the Echo becomes incredibly powerful:
- 3-second cooldown: Charges extremely fast
- Wide area damage: One-shots multiple enemies at once
- Game over potential: Nearly impossible to beat once you reach this stage
Recommended Compositions
Brawler Comp (Best for Echo Sage)
Brawlers
work well because they keep enemies engaged in the frontline, giving the Echo more time to charge:
PEKKA (carry)
Mega Knight
Prince
Barbarian
Stall Strategy
Use units that extend round duration without winning too quickly:
- Giant in front to tank
- Barbarian in back to slow DPS output
- Let the Echo charge while your team stalls
Placement Principles
- Echo in the back: Protected position, away from enemy damage
- Tanks in front: Buy time for the Echo to charge
- Spread your units: Avoid getting wiped before the Echo activates
Counter Matchups
Echo Sage vs Loom
The Loom might counter Echo Sage because:
- Loom can potentially kill the Echo in early game
- Fast aggression prevents the Echo from charging
Echo Sage vs Tanks
Echo Sage excels against tank-heavy comps:
- One-shots ignore enemy HP
- 4★ Echo destroys grouped tanks instantly
Is Echo Sage Good?
Initial assessment: Uncertain, but potentially underwhelming.
Concerns:
- The ability takes too long to charge in early rounds
- The Echo can die easily before getting value
- No elixir generation means you rely entirely on the Echo
Potential:
- The extra unit slot in Round 1 is valuable
- If you can consistently reach 3★-4★, it becomes very strong
- Might be a late-game scaling ruler rather than early-game dominator
Note: Just like the Loom was underestimated initially and became the best ruler, Echo Sage needs proper testing against skilled players before making final judgments.
TL;DR (Quick Checklist)
- ✅ Echo one-shots enemies after charging (9s → 8s → 6s → 3s based on star level)
- ✅ Levels up by defeating 1, 2, and 4 enemies
- ✅ 4★ Echo hits a wide area with 3-second cooldown
- ✅ Extra unit slot: Echo doesn't count towards team size
- ✅ Use Brawlers and tanks to stall rounds and protect the Echo
- ⚠️ No elixir generation: all power is in the Echo
- ⚠️ Slow early game: the first knockout is the hardest

The Echo Sage brings a completely unique playstyle to Merge Tactics. While it remains to be seen whether it can compete with established rulers like Goblin Queen or Loom, the potential for one-shotting enemies and dominating late game makes it an exciting addition to the game. Time will tell if it becomes meta or remains a niche pick! 🔮
